Ingredients:
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp active dry yeast
- 2 tbsp olive oil (or vegetable oil)
- 1 ¼ cups warm water (about 110°F)
- 1 tsp garlic powder (optional, for added flavor)
Instructions:
- Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently, then let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until the yeast becomes frothy.
- Make the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and garlic powder (if using). Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Knead the dough: Stir the mixture together until a dough forms. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Let it rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
- Shape the dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. You can then roll or stretch the dough out into your desired pizza shape (usually a 12-inch circle for one pizza).
- Preheat your oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and, if you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
- Bake your pizza: Add your favorite pizza toppings and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and crispy.
Tips:
- For an extra soft dough, you can substitute some of the water with milk.
- Letting the dough rise longer (like 2 hours or more) in the fridge can improve flavor and texture, as it allows the yeast to develop more fully.
